Roof Gardens, London's Skyline

A greener, more connected skyline

By seamlessly integrating green space, sustainable practices, and thoughtful design elements for outdoor working, growing and recreation, our rooftop terraces create versatile outdoor spaces for commercial and residential occupiers.

The landscape design of 16, Old Bailey features a series of external terraces on the upper floors that wrap around its north, west, and south sides, offering dramatic views of the Old Bailey law courts and the London skyline. This design promotes workplace well-being by providing valuable outdoor space. The Grade II listed building also boasts an 8th-floor roof terrace, which serves as a more intimate, private garden centred around a dramatic raised planting bed and tiered seating with views across the City.

“From the iconic Savoy Strand on the Embankment to the historic Old Bailey, these rooftop spaces offer panoramic vistas over London, the River Thames, and the London Eye.”

At 76, Oxford Street/1, Newman Street, developed for our client Great Portland Estates, the rooftop terrace supports the Wild West End initiative, which promotes biodiversity in the city and its positive impact on urban life. This space offers wide views and a range of different spaces for promenading, socialising and working while introducing plant pollinators to help improve urban bug and bee life.

Located at the Savoy Strand in central London, part of The Duchy of Lancaster’s Savoy Estate, we have renovated the roof terrace of a significant 1930s office building at 105-109 Strand. The refurbishment and extension include a two-storey rooftop mansard extension covered in zinc shingles, blending historical reverence with modern functionality. The design features lush green planting on the rooftop terraces and looks down onto the garden of The King’s Chapel of the Savoy, which we designed several years ago.

Each of these projects reflects our commitment to sustainable urban design by improving biodiversity, enhancing stormwater management, and reducing the urban heat island effect. Using the Urban Greening Factor (UGF) and Biodiversity Nett Gain and WELL metrics we have maximised both the societal and environmental value of these rooftop spaces.

Our rooftop terraces embody our vision of a greener, more connected London skyline. By making best use of rooftop spaces we enhance both the aesthetic and functional appeal of the city while helping businesses meet their sustainability goals—improving biodiversity, reducing urban heat, and promoting wellbeing through thoughtfully designed green spaces.

“We have collaborated with award-winning architectural practices to design rooftop terraces that not only enhance the skyline but also celebrate the unique history, architecture, and character of each location, creating dynamic spaces for work, leisure, and connection with nature.”
