Work starts on Magic Garden

Work has started on site on our design for the Magic Garden at Hampton Court Palace, with Frosts appointed as the landscape contractor under the supervision of the Historic Royal Palaces. This is a complex contract with engineering works that include an aerial walkway, grotto and water bodies with intricate detailing and layering of materials.

The Magic Garden is a new children’s garden within part of the former tiltyard at the Palace, a place for play that will engage and excite both children and adults. The rich history of Hampton Court has provided an inexhaustible source of inspiration for our design. We have developed a strong garden structure on which are layered a series of character areas, including a tournament ground, wild wood, mythical beasts lair, ‘strange topiary’ garden, encampment, and a spiral mount with moat and grotto. Tiltyard towers will contain different themes for exploration and learning. The journey through the garden will provide challenges, obstacles and illusions that play with the notions of hierarchy, status and scale.
