Late summer in new Somerset garden
We have just got our hands on some lovely photos, taken in the late summer by Graham Gaunt, of a project we undertook in Somerset between 2014 and 2016.
RMA was asked to design the gardens around a new, architect-designed barn conversion, for a private client. The gardens naturally broke down into three areas: a central courtyard overlooked by the main living accommodation (including part of a paddock to the south); an entrance drive and arrival court; and a swimming pool garden. We have given each of these spaces their own distinct character and identity, while relating them to each other as part of a coherent whole.
The design capitalises on the fine views of Corton Hill, and includes a circular sunken lawn with fire-pit, surrounded by generous beds of aromatic planting, and a grass garden with a mixture of native and ornamental grasses. The hard landscape detailing uses hand-made clay bricks to complement the house.
